A small private plane carrying 2 passengers was reported missing in New Mexico last week. A search is underway in the Pecos Wilderness near Santa Fe. The two people, were seen just before take off from Santa Fe Thursday evening and approximately 15 minutes later, air traffic lost contact with the airplane. The plane is registered to American Aircraft Brokers in Colorado. The last emergency beacon pinged about a moke south of Terrero, New Mexico. The FAA is denying any reports of a plane dropping off radar and only learned it was missing when a report was filed by the owner. The search includes the New Mexico state police, New Mexico Civial air Patrol, and the New Mexico Army National Guard, with about a million acres of wilderness to search on ground and by air. A plane matching the description of the missing plane that was flying low was reported to search and rescue by a group of hunters. The names of the missing passengers was not released.
Discussion:
What do you think Happened to the plane?
How do you suppose they could spped up the search?
What changes could be made so that the FAA could immediately be notified of a plane falling off of radar?
Any thoughts on who was flying the plane, since the owners reported it missing?
