Mon- No school//labor day

Tues- study/review for group test

-Civil War- 

*fought between North and South

*1860 Lincoln was elected- South thought Lincoln would abolish slavery

*South seceded 

*North goals- Keep union together and bring South back in

*Emancipation Proclamation- made slavery a goal, gave North a reason to fight more

*If South lost- thought they couldn't have slaves- fought harder

Advantages

*SOUTH knew the train better

*NORTH had more people

*SOUTH better with weapons and usually better hunters

*SOUTH better reason to fight

*NORTH better transportation- railroads

*NORTH better navy

*NORTH more industry materials

*NORTH more food

*NORTH better/stable government/president

*SOUTH better generals

*600,00 people killed on both sides

*NORTH general- General Grant

*General Lee

*Abe was shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth

*South surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse to General Grant

-Reconstruction- 

*1865-1877

*Time after Civil War where the South had to rebuild/reorganize and brought back to the Union

*Presidents Lincoln and Johnson wanted to be easy on the South

*Lincoln(republican) put Andrew Johnson(democrat) on his ticket to get democratic votes

*Hated Johnson because he was Southern

*Tried to kick Johnson out of office

*Congress wins against Johnson

Rebuilt South 

  • Economically- Rebuild Southern Economy to become more industrialized (What to do with African Americans)
  • Social- Families broken apart had been reunited- family members killed  
  • Politically- Can't allow white democrats be in charge
  • Physically- Cities (Roads, railroads) - had been destroyed

Wed- Today we did part 1 of the group tests and will do part 2 tomorrow. 

Thurs- Today we finished up group tests with part 2- did some short answer//true false also. Tomorrow we will continue discussing out new unit. 

Fri- Today is 9/11, we watch a video about what happened on 9/11. Talk about the 12 tips of a successful presentation.

*Know and understand your content; NO note cards 

*Keep good eye contact

*Do not just memorize--"speak from heart"

*Do not just read to audience

*Use power point as outline, expand from that

*Good pronunciation

2. GOOD CONTENT

*Content is most important

*Find right balance between too much and too little information

3. FACE THE AUDIENCE 

*Face the people not the poster//powerpoint

4. VISUALS

*Do not give the speech and THEN go over the visuals//pictures

*Show and tell

5. TALK LOUD ENOUGH

*Speak clearly

*Do not mumble

*Do not chew gum

*Speak up

6. BE CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE

*Be different than everyone else

*Make it memorable

*Stand out from other presenters

7. BE ENTHUSIASTIC 

*Pretend like you are a salesmen selling your product

 *Act bored and so will your audience

8. MOVE AROUND A LITTLE

*Don't sit or stand still

9. GET AUDIENCE INVOLVED 

*Ask questions

10. HAVE SOME TYPE OF INTRO AND CONCLUSION

11. ELIMINATE DEAD AIR TIME

*Dead air time in education is not good

*Hit the required amount of sources

*Do not use Wiki ansers, or yahoo-use other similar sites

*Google and Bing are not sources
