9/30/09

Today was Wednesday the 30 of September. Mr. Bruns was gone today so Mrs. Vis was our sub. We were free to work on our blogs, but most importantly, we worked on our presentations about our assigned sections and chapters. Class was pretty uneventful, so there is no more to say.I learned a little more in-depth information about key figures in the expansion of public education. William Torrey Harris, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Booker T. Washington were all prominent education figures. I learned about the struggles that many African Americans had in attending school, and recieving a quality education. I liked William Harris's views on how children should be educated. He did not like the idea of crushing students' wills, and breaking their individuality through rote memorization, and blind cooperation. He knew how kids liked to learn, and he based his teaching curriculums and plans around the needs of children.
