On monday we got a free day to work on our projects. Basically I had already read the whole section so, I just focused on the first section. The first section in my book was about expanding public education. I learned that most children did not go to school but, if they did they only went for four or less years.Very, very few students went to high school.Obviously the states did not think that this was good enough. Some time between 1865 and 1895 states started requiring 12 to 26 weeks of school for children who were 8 to 16. The schools mainyl focused on writing, arithmatic, and reading. Students always dreaded going to school because of the physical punishment they went through if they did one little thing wrong. Despite the criticism of schools children started going to school at younger ages. At first kindergarten had started as daycare but, it soon became part of puclic schools.
