Today we discussed the assigned blogs about 9/11 and information surrounding that touchy subject. I learned quite a bit, not only by doing my blog, but listening to others. There were apparently nineteen highjackers all together. Not one passenger from all four plane crashes died. The highjackers were targeting the twin towers, the Pentagon, and the White House or Capital. Only the targets of the twin towers and Pentagon were actually hit.Just under 3000 people were killed in the attacks. During the attack, President Bush was reading to elementary school children in Florida when he heard the news. Bush was then rushed to Offutt Airforce base in Omaha Nebraska. One plane was taken back into somewhat control by the passengers and was craashed into a field. Weeks later, Bush declared war against Al Queada and the Taliban who were and are lead by Osama Bin Laden. Bush's popularity sadly declined with the continuence of the war. Bush gave a rousing makeshift speech to the world declaring that those who attacked us would soon have to deal with the full force of America. We then talked about the Taliban. The Taliban is the government of Afghanistan from 1996-2001. They train their people in combat, especially with suicide tactics, and guerilla warfare. They are a self-proclaimed religious government who are steadily gaining power. They have no humanitarian policies, especially towards women. During the Cold War, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. In an effort to prevent the Soviets from conquering Afghanistan, the U.S. and other countries provided the early Taliban with weapons and money to fight the Soviets. Bin Laden was a high ranking leader in the Taliban, and after the Soviets were driven out, many remained loyal to Bin Laden. He began Al Qeada, the terrorist group that racks the world with its ferocious and terrible warfare. He used that power to lead the attacks of 9/11.The Taliban used to be the communist government but is now a democratically elected government. The Taliban still allows Al Qeada to train in their land. Al Qeada is the terrorist group around the world. The Taliban funds and protects them. The Taliban are strict about advancement. They want their society to be anti-modern, and shun nearly all forms of technology. Al Qeada specializes in bombings and suicide attacks. Osama Bin Laden is their leader, and the most wanted man in the world. He also has a terrible beard.
