9/21/09. [Al-Qaeda]

Al-Qaeda is an international terrorist network infamous for the 9-11 attack. Al-Qaeda first came together because they did not want to have a democratic government, they want the military to run their country. Al-Qaeda was put together by Osama bin Laden in 1988. Bin Laden and Abdullah Azzam, a Palestinian religious scholar recruited over thousands of mujahadeen (Holy Warriors). They came from fifty different countries to continue the "holy war."

I'm sure you all remember where you were on September 11, 2001. That was when Al-Qaeda sent two planes into the World Trade Center Towers, and one into the Pentagon. One was supposed to hit the US capital but, didn't make it. It crashed in Pennsylvania. Many believe of course that Al-Qaeda's motive for this was their hatred towards the Christians and the Jewish west. Though that maybe true, their attacks were attacks on the U.S. financial – military – government triad. The Pentagon stood for our powerful military. The twin towers stood for the United States power across the globe. And the US Capital building is the functional center of our government.

Al-Qaeda has many different headquarters and thousands of members. But, after the 9-11 attack and after we sent troops over to Afghanistan the number of members has dropped. Al-Qaeda can be linked to a ton of other attacks. They have been linked to attacks the US, London, Kenya, Pakistan, Yemen and more. Because our troops are overseas there has been less and less attacks. We are doing a good thing for our safety and other countrie's safety by having troops over there.
