Battle Presentations 

Sand Creek Massacre- Southern Cheyenne Tribe VS the Colorado Volunteer U.S. Cavalry .... United States army won ... John Chivington was a leader for the US ... Black Kettle was killed in the battle and was the leader of they Tribe ... Death/Casualties for southern Cheyenne tribe 70-163 killed ... 24 killed and 52 wounded for the cavalry ... The Cheyenne Tribe was a peaceful tribe... Happened because US wanted land ... The Indians even tried to surrender but the US didn't care 

Battle of the Hundred Slain

Red River War- Started with conflicts between the natives and westward settlers... Kind of a peaceful deal with the natives agreeing and stopping their attacks ... many moved to reservations.. In Texas... The treaty that was made ended up being an empty promise and the US hunted on their land and within 4 years the buffalo were basically whipped out in that area and the US gov. provided them with food that wasn't that great... The natives wanted the white men gone and their land back so they made the choice to fight rather than die....Comanche chief was Isa-Tai ... Winner was the US army cause the Indians surrendered... Lone wolf was the Kiowa leader.. Colonel Nelson A Miles was the US leader... Both sides were trying to not kill as many innocents and the Indians used gorilla war style.... June 27th, 1874.... Ended June 1875

Railroad prices and dept- railroads charged farmers high prices due to lack of competition... many farmers mortgaged their farms to buy more seed and supplies... crop prices fell due to overproduction 

What did farmers do to fight back against railroads? 

The grange- an organization to help farmers... the US encourages families to work together and promote the social, economic and political well being of farmers

non-profit ... founded in 1867... Farmers were being taking advantage off.. series of state laws passed in several Midwestern states.. Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois-in the late 1860's... designed to fight back against railroad abuse... wanted railroads and grain elevators to charge fair prices... Muss v Illinois 1877- Supreme court supported farmers

Wabash v Illinois (1886)- supreme court supported the railroads 

Populist movement- help farmers out of dept, gave people a greater voice in gov... increase money supply in circulation... graduate in com tax

Populist part was made up of farmers workers and not really rich.. it was the middle low class and farmers going against every onec
