9/2/19-No School

9/3/19-Today we started presenting the first of the projects, and told the forum post leader told their stories for the week

Herbert Hoover-

*His dad died when he was 6 and his mom died when he was nine

*He dropped out of highschool adn almost failed his entrance exams into Stanford where he received a geology degree

*He ended up working in a goldmine for 70 hours a week, he then moved up to a mine overseer where he made millions

*He began humanitarian work at the star of WW1 where he helpe deliver food and get tourist home, he was later appointed by to Secretary of Commerce

*After he started to become famous he decided to run for President where Hoover beat Alfred E. Smith and 7 months later the Great Depression

*Herbert then lost the 1932 election by the biggest numbers ever, and he was one of 2 presidents that decreased Job Creation

Peggy Whitson

*She brok records for 10 spacewalks, first woman to control ISS, and was up in sapce for 665 days

*Peggy expanded the ISS for living and work, carried out maintenanxe and task outside the spacecraft to help their ride, and spent many days gathering info for scientists

 9/4/19-We continued the presentations and went over the presentations we did yesterday

Ashton Kutcher-

*Graduated High school in 1996 and then went to Iowa University to study Biochemical Engineering but ended up dropping out

*He then started modeling after dropping out and ended up siging a modeling agency where he modeled for big brands

*Ashton then started an acting carrer with That 70s show on 1998-2006, he went on and acted in many movies and tv shows

*He met his wife while he was acting with Demi Moore for 8 years before the divorced, he then started dating Mila Kunis who he acted with on "That 70s Show"

*He founded Thorn which works agains human trafficking which scans internet to find suspicious content and reports it back

George Washington Carver

*He was the first african american to attend Iowa University

*Award for outstanding achievements by an african american

*He studied food growth and crop production, he was mostly devoted to southern agriculturewhere he tried to stop field erosion 

*He saved and revolutionized farming

The Five Sullivan Brothers

*They grew up during the Great Depression which meant the didn't complete High School, Francis and George enlosted first to Pearl Harbor, and the rest joined following the attack 

*They died when their ship blew up where 100 men or less survived the blast

*The "Sullivan Act" which is where no one can assign a whole family of memebers to the same ship so if one of your memebers die, you would be able to attend their funeral and so  the family wouldn't lose all their kids along with so the same thing doesnt happen what happened to the Sullivan brothers

9/5/19-Today we presented our project and some others

Carrie Chapman Cat

*She was a womens rights activist and helped make the 19th amendment

*She had to work as teacher for several years to pay to get to college, after college sho joined the Iowa Women's Suffrage Association to help people understand womens rights

*She lead a campaign to help secure women's rights and make it into an amendment 

Glenn Miller

*Glenn joined the Boyd Senter's Orchestra and the University of Colorado where he did not find any interest there so he dropped out

*He joined his first band in 1937 while he was there he met his wife Hellen

*While he began to produce many song he was got the nickname 'King Of Swing" but later he had to stop his music and leave his wife to join the air force

*He music was a big morale boost during WW2 and later he lead the Air Force Band and he earned the Brozen star for bravery

*No one knows how he died, he was on a plane to Paris and the plane never arrived and no body was ever found

9/6/19-Today we finished up the presentations

Buffalo Bill

*His real name was William Frederick Cody who started to work for the Pony Express at 14

*He founded his own show, he got his nickname for killing a record number of buffalo, and died from kidney failure

*He served for Union from 1861-1865 and he also fought for womens rights, he guided and scouted for the U.S. army

Mamie Eisenhower

*Her real name is Marie Geneva, she wasn't able to go to college at the time

*She became known as the "First Lady" because her husband was elected as president in 1953, she hosted most of the meetings in the White House

*Sh was involved in the earyl civil rights, when her husband had an hearth attack she was in charge of everything until he got better
