US native american policies

Assimilation: tried to americanize the native americans, by putting children in white boarding schools where they had to speak english. Put them on reservations. Kansas-Nebraska act. Indian and Oklahoma Territory merge.

Battle of one Hundred Slain: Lakota Cheyenne and Arapaho were beginning to get forced out. Indians won and moved all bodies to their camp, skinned and dismembered U.S. soldiers

Battle of Little Bighorn: Began Morning of June 25. George Custer- U.S. Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull- Indians, While the war was happening, the indians cill Custer. Native Americans won. 260 of Custer’s men died, 26 Indians total died

Wounded Knee Massacre: Took place in December 29-1890. Between U.S. and Lakota Sue. Chief Sitting bull, U.S. Samuel M. Whiteside. Over 150 Native american deaths, 25 soldiers killed. Happened at Wounded Knee creek

Powder River War: Fought between Lakota Sioux, Chief Black Kettle. General Philip Sheridan. Many troops died of frost-bite.

Sand Creek Massacre: Nov. 29th, 1864 in colorado. U.S. 675 men force Native Americans: 60-200

John Milton, Black Kettle. U.S. won ordered slaughter of Native Americans
