8th Grade History

Andrew Jackson was our seventh president of the United States. "Jacksomians" called the 1824 election as the "stolen election" because Jacksom had the most popular votes, but he didn't have enough electorial votes to win the presidency. The election had to be decided by the House of Representatives. That year Jackson was up against John Quincy Adams and William H. Crawford. Adams was elected in 1824 Jacksom wasn't very happy.

In 1828 Jacksom beat Adams and in 1832 Jacksom also defeated Clay four years later.Jacksom was the first president to do many things. He was the first populist president who didn't come from the aristocracy. He was also the first president to have hes vicepresident to resign (John C. Calhoun). He was the first, also, to use "pocket veto" to terminate a comgressional bill.Jacksom and the Native Americans did not get along well. He led troops against the Natives in the Creek War and the First Seminal War. During his hes first term of presidency, the Indian Removal Act was passed in 1830. In 1832,Andrew did nothing to make Georgia obey the supreme courts ruling in Worcester against Georgia had no say over the Cherokees. The "Trail of Tears" was blamed for Jackson's failure to uphold the leagal rights of Native Americans. Andrew Jacksom retired in 1837 to his home near Nashville.
