Mr. Bruns discussed the rest of the 8th grade review. He started on the civil war. It was between the north and the south, The North won the war. The war was mainly slavery. It took place 1861-1865. The south need the slaves and the north didn’t. The south seceded because Lincoln was elected president, due to their thoughts that he was going to end slavery. Really he was just going to not allow it to extend to the west. The north had more states, railroad, factories, money, iron, and farming. The south was ahead in exports and had better generals. This is why the north won. The north joined the war just to bring the south back to the union. Then he talked about reconstruction. It was from 1865-1867. This time was when the south had to be rebuilt physically because the towns were distorted. They had to rebuild it socially because the African Americans were not educated. They created the free mans beryl to help educate the freed blacks. The north took over the government because they did not want to have slavery to reestablished. 1876 is when the presidential election. That is when the reconstruction ends. Due to this the white took over the south again blacks fell back down to the bottom of the chain.
