17 continued...describe major events compromises and incedents that led up to the civil war.
The underground railroad a line of escape houses for blacks. Harriet tubman was incharge of that system. the dread scott decision was when a black man was a slave in a free state and went to court for it. Blacks could not be US citizens and they allowed slavery. The missouri compromise of 1820. they wanted to keep the free and slave states equal. and they made for slavery at 36-30 latitude line. anything north of it was free and south of it was slave states. Thirty years later they had the compromise of 1850 and california became a free state because they had plenty of people. South gave up there land and got 10 million dollars for it to pay off debt. 1854 was when the final decision about the dread scott decision was made. then uncle toms cabin was also a big part of before the civil war. Uncles toms cabin is an anti-slavery book. The kansas nebraska act was popular sovernty. They also popular slave laws. Slave trade and districs of columbia were a big part of the compromise. Lincoln was elected in 1860.which lead the outbreak on the civil war.
18. describe advantages of the north and southduring the war.
North had lincoln for a leader and they had a greater population which mean bigger troops. good railroad systems for transportation. They also had naval advantage which blockaded the south. South was bigger and knew there land, long coastline and knew where everything was located. South also had better generals. They could produce food they needed because of better land. They had 7/8 military colleges which meant better trained men. The South had the better cause according to the people at the time because they were fighting for themselves while the north were fighting for the union.
19. Give positive and negative effect reconstruction had on the US.
Reconstrucion happened between 1865-1877 when US was fixing damage from the south the the Civil war prior to that. Positives- The freedmance bureau gave african americans food clothes jobs, etc. There were 3 ammendments added to constitution. they were used to abolish slavery(13) The government must treat people equally(14) Given african american minorities the right to vote(15). Negatives-The KKK came during this time.People had to start share cropping because there was very little good land for farming.
