Today, in class, we started up on the computers and got to the blog discussions. I couldn't get connected right away so I am filling you in a few minutes behind.
Bruns talked about how Washington was a President who set a precendent. The biggest thing he did was that he stepped down after 2 terms. Later, they created an amendment banning it, but it wouldn't have happened if he hadn't stepped down. He helped set up the Senate and all that jazz. They really looked to him as a leader.
Andrew Jackson was more of a tough hard-nosed guy. He was very hard on Native Americans and made them leave their area to farther west.
Next, Rachel talked about the bad blood between the states and Britain. The British wouldn't agree to stop ceizing the American sailors. This is called 'impressment.' She also talked about how there had been some controversy on who won the war, since many battles went to other victors.
Other topics talked about were the Mexican-American War, which started over a dispute regarding the texas/mexico boundaries. Another topic was about why Americans moved west. One obvious reason is to search for gold and other riches. Then, someone talked about the Underground Railroad and all that Harriet Tubman did for the enslaved people.
