Today in US History, we talked about the Bill Of Rights and how it supports our freedom and rights. We also talked about George Washington's presidency. During this we got into a discussion about how long a president can serve for. It just recently, in the past 20 years, became a law that you can only serve for 2 terms. Back to Washington, we discussed he was the first president and was the model for every president to follow him. We talked about the other early presidents and their similarities and relations to George Washington.Afterwards, we discussed Jefferson's presidency. He was president from 1801 to 1809. he wrote the Decleration of Independence. He was around for the Lewis and Clark expition, and he was part of the Louisiana Purchase. During the voting for him, each voter could vote twice, the winner was president, the runner-up was vice president. We also covered Andrew Jackson's presidency. He fought in the French and Indian War. He first ran for president in 1824, but lost to Quincy Adams. Jackson was the favorite to the common people though, because he wasn't wealthy, he was a normal poor man. He was elected 1832. He was around when the electoral college was first put to use.The Trail Of Tears was during his presidency too. Then we covered how the U.S. required land. The Louisiana Purchase was how we got the Midwest in our posession. We annexed Texas after they recieved their independence for Mexico. Later on we bought Alaska from Russia.
