29th - 7th grade review

Native Americans Coming and Going (10,000 years ago) - Came through Modern day Russia over a land bridge. They split into many cultures and tribes. The Europeans lied, stole, cheated, to get Native Americans land and resources. They killed off the buffalo and cause the Trail of Tears. They made them Civilize and Christianize, along with war and disease.

Exploration (1492-early 1600's) - Columbus sailed for Spain and came 3 different times to America, he hit modern day Cuba and South America but not modern-day United States. The Vikings came 500 years earlier but did not survive. During this time others from Spain took over native peoples like the Incas. Sir Francis Drake made it around the world. This was all fueled by the lust for money.

Colonization(early 1600's-1770's) - This period of time was all about surviving and living in the Americas. Spain owned most of Central America, South America, and the SW US. The line of Demarkation was when the Pope seperated South America for both Spain and Portugal. France owned part of Canada and Central US. Britain owned most of the coastline of the United States and upper Canada. The 13 colonies include Geogia, North and South and Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvannia, New York,Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

Revolutionary War (1775-1783) - The French and Indian War was between the French and Great Britain, it caused massive debt for Britain and then started taxing the colonies strongly, "No taxation without representation." The proclomation line caused westward expansion to stop as they couldn't go into Native American land. The intolerable Acts closed Boston Harbor until they paided for the lost tea, took away the Massachusetts government and were forced to house brithish soldiers.

 30th - 7th grade review continued

The Articles of Confederation (1781-1788) - Made the country too independant by giving the states all the power. States could refuse taxation, there was free trade causing hurtful competition, no national military, one vote per state, unanimous vote to change, no national courts, no executive branc.

US Constitution (1789) - Was made to replace the rather awful Articles of Confederation, made the legislation that still lasts to this day. It is constantly changed with amendments. It is a iving document that forms the 3 branchs and the government. The three banches are made to avoid one person in power, they use the checks and balances to check on eachother. James Madison was the father of the Constitution and Thomas Jefferson was the writer. 538 total house members, 435 from the representatives, 100 from senators, and 3 from Washington D.C. Senator can be in for 6 years and house of representative can last forever but has a term of 2 years. 25 to be in the house, 30 for the senate and 35 or the President.

31st - 7th review continued

Westward Expansion (1800's) - The West for the United States changed a few times, from the mountains in the east, the mississippi river and eventually the Pacific Ocean. Manifest destiny represents the god given right for the United States to expand all the way to the pacific. Our first 13 colonies first gained about another large sized portion bought most of the midwest from France. Later we then got Florida from Spain. We annexed Texas, as well as the South West of the modern United States from Mexico. We then finnally bout the oregon territory from Birtain and then smaller deals yet to come.

Lewis and Clark - These two men explored most of the Louisiana Purchase, they went up the Mississippi river and went up all the way to the Pacific Ocean. They had help from Native Americans and discovered a lot of plants and animals.
