Top ten events that shaped US History to 1877
1.Native Americans coming and going 10000 years ago.
Native Americans came up to 23,000 years ago and came here when the ocean was low. They followed their food source and edventually ended up in the United States. The European explorers lied and stole and cheated to get the Native Americans land and resources they killed off their buffalo. Indian Removal Act- Trail of Tears 1830's - 40's. Civilize and Christianize.
2.Exploration 1492- early 1600
Christopher Columbus sailed for Spain. Came 3 different times. Sir Francis Drake sailed all the way around the world and around africa and up part of North America. Magelin was the first person and his crew to sail around thre world and prove that the world is round. Explorers were mainly after money. Thats what really led to colonization.
Colonization early 1600- 1770's
Major Ares where spain colonized was South America, Mexico, and florida. The Pope said that the line of demacation to the eat of that goes to the portuguese and everything to the west goes to spain. The thirteen colonies.... Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennnsylvania, New york, Massachuesetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshere, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware
Revolutionary War 1775- 1783
The french and indian war was a war between the french and indians on one side and the colonists and great britain. 1754- 1763. After this war great brittain was in massive debt so they started enforcing taxes. No taxation without representation. Great brittain wouldn't allow the colonists have a saying in their government. Proclamation line of 1763. Boston Massacre 1770. Great British troops killed boston residents and made tension between the two. The intolerable acts closed boston harbor until the lost tea was returned, took away massachusetts government, british troops could now force bostonians to quarter soldiers and feed them and house them, and if british soldiers did anything bad they can go back to great britain and have a trial there and not in the 13 colonies. The decloration of independence listed a lot of things about king george the third.
US Constitution 1789
Was a group of famous people come together and make the new constitution that we have today. Its a living document that is constantly changing. and sets up our government and protects our rights. It came about because they were not happy with our articles. Seperation of power is where we are broken up into 3 branches so we don't have one person making all the desicions. Checks and balance systeim is where any branch can check on other branches so every branch is balanced and no branches over power each other. James Madison was the father of the constitution. Two houses of congress are the senet and house of represenatives. The president is the comander in cheif. Can stay in office for a maximum of 10 years. Make treaties, ensure laws are executed. Nothing goes above the constitution.
Westward Expansion 1800's
The west changed throughout history. Manifest Destiny. When we got independence from great britain the boundary was the mississippi. The Louisiana Purchase included Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Colarado, Oaklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, South Dakota, Minnisota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming. In 1819 we got Florida from Spain. Then in 1845 Texas Annexation we got Texas, parts of new mexico and oaklahoma and calorado. Then we went to War with spain and won and got the mexican session which includes, Arizona, new mexico, Utah, Nevada, California. territory. 1846 we got oregon idaho and washington in the Oregon Territory. 1898 we got hawaii. Lewis and Clark explored the Louisiana Purchase and it took them abouut 2 years.
