  • What is history? The study of the history of the world.
  • What are some of the biggest achievements in world history? Fire, learning to use tools, planting seeds/farming, creating languages, invention of the wheel, boats, art, domestication of animals.
  • Where were the oldest human fossils found? Africa
  • What is the difference between archeology and paleontology? Paleontology is the study of natural things. Archeology is the study of man-made items.
  • What is paleonanthropology? Study of the origin of present humans using artifacts from the past. 
  • Hominization- the process of becoming like a human

Louis and MaryLeakey

  • Searced for hominid remains in Tanzania from the 1930's-1970's
  • Found humanlike fossils in 1959 in the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania
  • This discovery would usher manyy other findings over the decades.

Donald Johanson

  • Discovered a 3.2 million year old fossil of a female skeleton in Ethiopia named "Lucy" in 1974
  • This was the oldest known hominid remains found until 2015
