This includes, Native Americans, Exploration, Colonization, Revolutionary War, US Constitution, Westward Expansion, Texas War for Indians, Civil War, Reconstruction. We discussed how Europeans tortured, killed and stole from Indians. They did this to steal their land and resources. We discussed Columbus who traveled to Cuba then to South America.  Exploreres were after money when discovering america. At first, it was about gold, but there wasnt much gold in the US, so they turned to Sugar Cane and Wood and Indian Slaves. 13 Colonies- North and South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware New Jersy Pensilvania, New York, Conneticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island Massachusettes. We discussed the Revolutionary war. No Taxation without Representation. They shouldnt be able to tax the colonists if the colonists have no say in their government. In response to the Boston Tea Party, the Intolerable Act was made. This made it so that the Boston Harbor was closed until the colonists paid off the tea they wasted.

Alot of the Declaration of Independence was complaining about King George, talking about why we need to be independent. The Articles of Confederation were about not wanting a King to rule the country and instead leave our government in the form of a federal government. Taxation was not always honored among the other states. The states competed with eachother for trade instead of working as a whole. There was also no national military, the states had the power to send troops unless they didnt feel like it. In 1787, they had enough and gathered in the constitutional convection to try and fix the crumbling Country. The U.S. Constitution is a living document that sets up our government, and protects our civil rights, The Constituition came about because they were unhappy with the articals. The seperation of powers was the seperation of the three branches to make sure not one group of people was able to maintain all the power. A checks and powers system is a system where one branch is always checked up on by the other branches to make sure no one branch is getting too powerful. The father of the constituition was James Madison. The two houses of congress are Senate and House of Representatives. There are 100 Senators- 2 per state. The number of Representatives are decided between the population of the state. there are 538. The Senate and House make laws, set taxes, declare war, override vetoes, borrow money, regulate international and national trade, print money. The presidents term is 4 years, you have to be thirty five, and born in the United States. The longest amount of time the president can serve is ten years because if the president dies, the vice president could take over for the remaining 2 years and get re-elected for two terms, or eight years. For being in the Supreme court, there are no qualifications. Justices of the Supreme Court get theirjob by getting appointed by the president. A justice can lose his job by dying, retiring, or being impeached. The US Supreme Court have the power to make laws. Ex: They decided to no longer do anything about gay marriage. The US Constituition is the supreme law of the US. It is used to make sure no laws are passed that are unconstituitional. It sets up our government and it's responsibilities. It protects states and peoples rights through the amendment process. It is a living document.

We talked about how to set up Blog Posts & Google Docs for Notes. Labor Union- A union of Laborists / workers that come together to try and get better pay and work conditions. Labor Unions would march together in protest of pay cuts. Eventually the marches spread all across the country and called the day a holiday called labor day. It took years for the government to legalize the holiday but eventually it became a legal holiday. ""The West" of the U.S. changed throughout history depending on what part of the continent was apart of the U.S. at that time. When we defeated Britain, the boundary of our country was the Mississppi River. Than the Lousiana purchase accured, and our counrty nearly doubled in size. In 1819 we got Florida from Spain. Than we annexed Texas. Than during the Mexican war, we got the Mexican Cession, which we paid for even if they didnt have a choice. We got Oregan from Britain in 1886. We purchased Alaska from Russia. Than we annexed Hawaii in 1898. Lewis and Clark explored much of the Louisianna Purchase.
