Today we finished Alex`s presentation on causes of the cold war.
trust:
One of the causes of the cold war was trust, because we dropped two atomic bombs on japan.
both countries feared trust on each other.
actions:
soviet union tried to take and make other countries communist and they started with germany.
Communism and demacracy was pretty much what started the cold war.
Fidel Castro and Bay of pigs was by Chelsea
The U.S. backed batista someone against fidel castro the leader of cuba.
at first castro promised democracy but then led his country to communism and we decided we couldnt have a country 50 mi. away because they could bomb us. so we went and invaded him and took him out.
The Bay of Pigs:
invasion to start an upspring against castro.
anything cuban is not allowed in our country.
CIA trained cubans who left cuba to take out castro but it was a total disaster and was an embaressment to the united states. - anticastro cubans.
The U.S. tried to invade Cuba. so cuba asked for the Soviet Union to bring over nuclear missils. So if we ever got into a war with cuba it would probably be like a nuclear war.
Sam had the Truman Doctrine and a lot of other things.
Polocy of Containment
this was to stop the spread of communism or to contain it.
this was the overall goal for the cold war.

iron curtain was a term given for the seperation of eastern and western europe. (two worlds)
Marshall Plan
plan to re-build a better economy for western europe.we gave them billions and billions of dollars we also did it so they wouldnt become communist.
Truman doctrine:
gave a bunch of military aid to greece and turkey. they asked for our help and because of our help we contained communism.
Domino effect.
if a country turned communist then the country beside it would and then the next would then pretty soon half the world was. this led to then containment of communism.
