The cold war was a political, strategic and ideological struggle between the US adn the Soviet Union. East-communist. west-democracy.
Democracy is where people get to vote. People can do what they want within reason. In a communist country the government is basically in control of everything.
Causes of the cold war...
THis war was basically between the communists and the non communists.
Seperation of Germany...
At the end of WWII germany was split up into four seperate parts.
The four parts were divided by US, Great Britain, France, and Russia.
Atomic Bombs...'
We made an atomic bomb and the USSR started to get mad taht we made it without telling them. Since they were getting worried they started to make an atomic bomb. Even though we both made atomic bombs the war never actually broke out into a hot war.
Treaty between Polnad and Russia.
Since the USSR was still mad at us for making the atomic bomb another thing that they did was sign a border treaty with Poland.
Iron Curtain...
Russia had control over Poland, East Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Czechoslovakia whcih they called the iron curtain. It basically split Europe in half.
Bolshevik Revolution. On October 24-25 1917, bolshevik soldiers, sailors, and red guards stormed the winter palace and arrested some of the provisional government. THis is often known as the bloodless coup,because no one was hurt and the bolshevik's took power.

The red scare was started because of a wide spread fear of anarchism, and communism. It was brought up by Alexander Mitchell Palmer, he started illegal searhes and deportations of expected communists.

U.S. used the policy of containment to stop communism. Builld up foreign security. Prevent domino effect. President Truman best represented the policy.
