Today we mopped up with Mr. Bruns second of three PowerPoint’s. Here is the information that he talked about. We also do now have a big blog this week. THANK YOU!!

Operation Barbarosa was the German-Soviet Non Aggression Pact that was used so Hitler did not have to worry about the Soviet Union. The greatest land war in recorded history began at 3:30 am on June 22, 1941. Soviet Union lost millions of people in WWII. The winter is what slowed the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Germany was not prepared for the winter and the Soviet Union was prepared. This allowed the Soviets to slowly begin to push Germany out of the Soviet Union. The Soviets still needed three years to get Germany pushed back out of the Soviet Union. Leningrad was the major city that Germany really wanted. Starvation was a big thing that people died from. People ate wallpaper plaster for food because they did not have anything to eat. Germany never took over Leningrad, but it was a very costly thing because many people starved to death. Erwin Rommel was the Great German General. George Patton was a Great American General. Italy was not the soft underbelly of the Axis power that we thought they were. The Tuskegee Airmen were the pilots were that flew bombing missions in Italy. Dwight Eisenhower was the third top American in charge during WWII. He became the future president of the US. The end of D DAY was when we finally took over Paris France. Ike Patton and Bradley were famous Generals in WWII. MacArthur. The Battle of the Bulge was Germany’s last major offensive towards the end of WWII. Hitler’s goal was to push the Allied Powers towards the water and Hitler’s Generals thought it was going to be a waste of men. This was one of the bloodiest US battles in WWII. It was during the winter months and over a million men participated in this battle. The Malmedy Massecre was the killing of 86 American POW’s after this war. TERRIBLE THING that happened. Hitler shot himself in the head. His wife or mistress and both killed themselves on the same day of the invasion. VE day was the official end of the war. That concludes Mr. Bruns second PowerPoint.

Mr. Bruns third PowerPoint, this is ridiculous.

This is the Pacific Front of WWII. The Japanese invaded French Indochina. Japan also thought that attacking the US at Pearl Harbor would make the US want to trade with them again, as the Japanese call it, “We have awoken a sleeping giant!” Ha-ha funny thing. General Douglas MacArthur left Bataan aboard the PT-41. Australians were placed under MacArthur’s command. That is where he was based because the Allied Powers thought that the Japanese were going to do. American troops surrender in the Japanese and then the Americans join the Death March. Navajo Code talkers were a huge thing for codes in the US military. James Doolittle was put in charge to find young pilots to bomb Japan. This caused the US to fly bombers off aircraft carriers. This was a stupid decision. The battle of Coral Sea was an airplane battle that was the next stepping stone the Japanese to invade Australia. This battle was a stale mate. The Coral Sea battle was significant because Japan did not win which made it a win for the Allies. Dog fighting was air plane battles. Chester Nimitz was not a well known person. Nimitz was the leader of the Navy against Japan. STUD!! The true turning of the invasion towards Japan was the Battle of Midway. The Battle of Midway was the main turning point because Japan was never the same after we sunk the ships well a lot of them anyways.
