Today was Blog Discussion day over the Treaty of Versailles. And Mr. Bruns decided that we would get until Monday before we present our projects. YAY!!! So we talked about how the Treaty and what is did. Germany lost a lot of land. Germany lost 16.7 % of their farmland 12% of live stock, and lost 12.5% of their total land. Germany lost their islands in the Pacific Ocean and Africa. Woodrow Wilson never signed the Treaty of Versailles. The senate did not sign the Treaty. The United States went back to isolationism and did not want to participate in anything that did not take place in the United States. The Germany military was basically disabled. The Rhine River was the turning point in the Treaty. The Rhineland was going to become a new country with no military in the 50 kilometer area. This caused Germany to split into 4 sections. The whole Germany being a demilitarized area was wrong because they trained 100,000 men the released them to the reserves and then they did that so they had a lot of men ready for war. The War-Guilt Clause said that Germany had to pay for the damage that they caused in France and other countries. Germany did not start the war and Austria-Hungary declared War on Serbia who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and this caused it to a World War. The United States only got Debt from World War 1. Germany had to pay $33 Billion to France and Great Britain. The war reparations that they had to pay made Germany mad and they lost everything and lost natural resources and live stock. The last thing that the Treaty did was set up the League of Nations. The United States never joined the League of Nations. So this caused them to wonder if they would not be part of it so they did not get involved in any European Wars, which happened constantly back then. The United States were allies with Japan in WW I, and then they got mad at us and revolted and attacked us in the beginning of World War II. World War II came about because Germany and Russia lost a lot of land and they took over the same land that they lost after the Treaty of Versailles. Germany lost their over seas colonies and they also had to give a lot of land back to Russia via the Brest-Litovsk treaty. Austria asked permission to join Germany to form a super state. The League of Nations had 5 permanent countries: Great Britain, France, Italy, the United States, and Japan.
