Today we had Blog Discussion over our Black History Month and I did mine over the NAACP. Here are other topics that have been discussed and a little bit about them:

Tara did her job over Rosa Parks. She is a famous African American because she sat at the beginning of the colored section of a bus and then the police got called just because she would not move for a white man to sit in the seat she was sitting in.

Ben did his Blog over Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. is famous for his “I Have a Dream” speech and this speech is about blacks and whites being equal in the United States. Martin Luther King Jr. won the Noble Peace Prize for his Speech.

Zach did his project over the beginning of Black History Month. It is first known as Negro History Week. It is really interesting over how it began. He also did his over Jackie Robinson and how he is the first African American to play in the MLB and was rookie of the year in 1947. Jackie died by via a heart attack on October 24, 1972. Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier for sports in the United States.

Kayley did her Blog over the Watt’s Riots. A black man was drunk and he got pulled over and got a sobriety test and did not let him drive the car home. His brother and mom were sober and the cop would not let the cop allow his mom or brother to drive home and it caused the people that were watching the arresting of the man, to start a riot. The police started a curfew. 3,000 people were arrested by the riots.

Riley did his blog over Collin Powell. Collin fought in Vietnam and went to George Washington University. Collin Powell became a Captain in Vietnam and then became a General in the Military. He ended up being President George W. Bush’s Secretary of State and was also the Joint Chief of Staff. He was famous for the 2008 election and he supported Barrack Obama.

Ashley did her Blog over Thurgood Marshall, he was a lawyer. He wanted to go to a law school and the University of Maryland rejected him because he was black. Then he applied at Howard Law and his first court case was in 1933 and he won. He ended up suing the University of Maryland and won that case too. He was the first African American Supreme Court Justice.

I did my Blog over the NAACP.

Erin did her Blog over Matthew Henson. He explored the world and Commander Robert E. Perry realized how good Matt was a good navigator and became the navigator on Perry’s ship. Perry wanted to make it to the North Pole. Perry did not make it to the North Pole and Henson was the first to put the American Flag on the North Pole.

Zach K. did his Blog over Harriet Tubman, who started the Underground Railroad.
