Today was a short day but april startted with her presentation about the RFC. Was started by Hoover administration in 1932. Goals were to help with the economic troubles of the great depression. Help by lending money. First lent to financial industrial and ag. businesses. Then gave to construction and operation of war plants, foreign governments, provided protection from war and disasters. It was ended by congress in 1953.
Then she talked about REA. Agency part of US dept. of Ag. Loan program jfor rural electrificatioin and telephone servicce in rural areas. Primary goal the promote rural electrification. Started in 1935.Provided farms inexpensive electric light ing and power. Private companies didnt want to go out of big city because of low profit. Rural rates were 4x as city rates. I early 1970;s 98% of farms had poweer. Was abolished in 1994.
