Today Ashley started with her presentation by talking about thhe Nation Industrial Recovery Act on June 16,1933.It encouraged economic growth. but failed at doing some of the stuff it was supposedd to do. Helped people who had trouble paying for things to pay for things.Next Tara went and talked about the Civil works adminiistration. It didnt last very long because they hired around 2 million workers and theey had promised high wages so they started to run out of money pretty quick andd had to shut it down. Then she talked aobut the uniteed states housing authority. The USHA was established in 1937. It was designed in order to lend money to the statees for low cost construction. Construction was of housing deevelopments for low wage earning citizens. Al Smith, New York;s governor started public housing programs for low income families. An obvious separation had to be made between normal housing units and welfare units. Welfare Unit citizens had to have an incom 20 percent lower than the upper income limit. Welfare Units were only available to the poor, yet they had to be worthy of help. Civil rights group acceepted the fact that units were to racially segregated.Next kesterson went and he talked about the Emergency Bank Relief act. It was Also known asd the bank holidday. It closed all banks on this day. 5,000 banks passed. It was basically a big inspection of all banks to see how they were giving out loans and other things. If they failed the test they had to do everything under servaillance for a while. Others opened back up around a week later if they passed. Some opened up the next day. Banks had to watch who they let bank there because some people would take advantage of the bank and not pay their loans off then the banks would get in trouble for not having the money. It only went until 1935. Then he continued on talking about the Social security act... It gave old age pensions so old aged people could get money for medical stuff. It helped old age people or any families with disabeled people because it is really hard to pay for all that medical stuff so it helped them a lot. Helps retirees and the unemployed to pay for food and things they need to survive and not much more. This way they could pay for houses too. Also women who worked at home were considered unemployed got checks because they were considered american citizens and were considered unemployed.
