Today we started talking about World War IAllied powers- friendsGermany was the major power of the central power.Germany fought a two sided war. They were surrounded by allied powers and were fighting on both sides and they had to split up their army.Czar Nicholas was the leader of Russia.Many European leaders were related.Kaiser Wilhelm was the leader of Germany.Imperialism is taking over strong countries. It was one of the main reasons of WWI. The United States never had anything to do with Africa.Causes of World War I:Militarism- The military was being built up because they wanted to use them more. It was more likely for a big war to breakout.Imperialism- brings about greed and competition. They all were competing for money and power.The European war became a World War because of all the colonies involved. Whoever won would get the other countries colonies.Nationalism- pride in your country. Most of the time it was taken too far. Adolph Hitler for example thought his country was the best.Alliances- were being built because they didn’t trust or like other countries.The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferfinand-Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the prince of Austria-Hungry.Gavrilo Princip was the assassin. He was too young to be put to death, but he did spend the rest of his life in prison.The Von Schlieffen plan- the plan was to no fight a two sided war. Germany did not achieve this plan because they didn’t make it to Paris and they didn’t get the French to surrender.This plan did become effective in World War II.TrenchesFront line, Support and Reserve.Split up to two sides and the “no mans land” was in the middle. In “no mans land” there was barbed wire. If you went in “no mans land you would probably get shot. People would hide in trenches to sleep and eat and be safe.Gas was also used as a terror weapon. A gas mask could help very little but the oily liquid would hit your skin and burn.
