Railroad workers were freight handlers, locomotive engineers who built and repaired the rolling stock. European Immigrants repaied the tracks. Time confussion- each town ran on their own times. Whenever the sun was directly above their heads they thought that it was noon. Then they divided the each into 24 time zones. Towns were connected by railroads.Granger Laws- a farmers organization, created laws to fix problems such as discrimination illegal, and railroad rates. many conflicts. charged different rates depending on the load.Mun v. Illisnois- yes states can put restrictions on railroad rates. (1877)ten years later any state cannot control the rate.Interstate Commerce Act- (1887) congress came out with the law that stated that they can put restrictons.I did my presentation on the challenges of urbanization.
