The Bay of Pigs Invasion
Upseppa Island was where the training of the Cuban exiles took place. The Cubans knew that an invasion was coming, but they just didn't know where from. There was a fake landing before the actual invasion took place. The invasion lasted three days and 176 men were killed. The invasion was a big failure, because Kennedy was dumb. Castro gained a lot of ground and confidence.
House Committee on Un-American Activities.
It was created in 1938 to investigate domestic disloyalty. This happened because of the huge fear of communists. The HUAC thought that most of the communists were in Hollywood. Investigated whether communists were planting propaganda in movies. Many people were afraid of going to prison so they accused other people of being communist. The Hollywood Ten were the most famous group of blacklisted individuals. They didn't answer any questions because they were rebellious. Over 300 Hollywood workers were blacklisted. The work of the HUAC declined during the late 1950s.
Joe McCarthy
Joe McCarthy was a Marine in WWII. He resigned from the military in 1945. He was a Republican and ran for U.S. Senator in 1944, and he was the governor of Wisconsin. McCarthy was eventually voted as the worst U.S. Senator ever. He was voted because he was an abuser of alcohol.
