Cuban Missile Crisis, argument between Cuba and US, started mostly due to Bay of Pigs incident, was the closest we have ever come to nuclear war, soviet union put the warheads in there, JFK demanded the warheads to be dismantled, even though we had missiles i n Turkey directed towards the Soviet Union. decided quarantine Cube and stopped Soviet ships. after Soviets removed the warheads from Cuba, we took ours from Turkey and promised not to invade Cuba
Joe McCarthy, fought in WWII but had a desk job, ran for senate in 1952 claiming communist were taking over the government, claimed to have the names of 57, 81, and 201 communist in the States Department, these suspected attacks on communism became known as McCarthyism, although he never had evidence to support claims, claimed that the Democratic party was guilty for 20 years of treason for allowing communist into the government, his downfall was when he accused the U.S. army and was nationally televised his strategies, of which the public did not agree with and was highly illegal, was allowed to in Senate due to a Senators immunity, Senate condemmed him for improper behavior
