Today we are taking more notes and i got the notes from yesterday from Jess. Then we will work on our projects more.

Yalta conference 1945=In Russia, planned what should happen when the war ended (Churchill,Stalin and Roosevelt).
-establishment of the united kingdom
-Germany to be divided into four zones
-free elections allowed in the states of eastern Europe
-Russia promised to join the war against japan

-iron curtain speech= Winston Churchill in 1946, saying how Europe was split into 2 parts.
-domino theory(effect)= when one falls they all fall
-policy of containment= 1947, George kennon, policy to prevent the spread of communism.
-Truman doctrine= Truman, 1947, get money and military supplies in turkey to help them fight off the communist.
-Marshall plan= George C. Marshall, we lent money to European countries to help them gain back confidence after WW1 the domino theory couldn't take effect, European recovery plan.
-brinkmanship= pushing the military to the brink of war without actually going to war. just hope the other side will back down.
-massive retaliation- military doctrine
mutual deterrence- both sides agree to fight
assured destruction= that everyone dies, we both destroy each other
-NATO vs. Warsaw pact= North Atlantic Treaty Organization, safe gaurd, signed by 8 countries, USSR wanted total control and the pact wanted to maintain peace.
-CIA vs. KGB- CIA- Central Intelligence Agency, gather intelligence-spying, KGB was a USSR secret police.
-peaceful Coexistence= policy of keeping peace between different nations
De-stalinization-the soviets wanted to stop doing what Stalin had done, get every one to doing and acting like Stalin and get his stuff. Get him out of your country.
Nuclear Test Nam Treaty-Banned nuclear test above ground.
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty 1968- prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.
Strategic Arms Limitation Talks- 1972- Us and Russia- limit weapons
