Iron Curtain Speech - Speech given by Winston Churchill

Domino Theory - A communist victory in one nation would quickly lead to a chain reaction of communist takeover.

Policy of Containment - A policy in 1947 made by Harry Truman to spread the stop the spread of communism.  

Truman doctrine - America will help any country that is threatened by Communism, mainly Greece and Turkey in 1947 by Harry Truman 

Marshall Plan - US paying to help European economy after WWII

Brinkmanship - Letting a situation to become extremely dangerous in order to get result 

Massive Retaliation - A strategy of military counter attack that involves nuclear weapons 

Mutual Deterrence  - using military presence and use nuclear weapon to defend country 

NATO - Organization of 12 countries of the Atlantic Pact for Defense of line with many European countries. 

Warsaw Pact - A military treaty and association of European countries, formed in 1955 and dissolved in 1991. opposite of NATO (USSR, West Germany, Bulgaria, Cezh)

CIA - An agency that investigates and gathers security information though human intelligence 

KGB - The former Soviet Union intelligence agency formed in 1954, a mix of CIA and FBI.

Peaceful Coexistence - living together in peace rather than in constant hostility.

De-Stalinization -  disregarding or ignoring the influence, image and leadership of Joseph Stalin from WWII.

Detente - the easement of tension between two sides in either a negotiation or agreement.

Perestroika - Restructuring of the Soviet Communist Government during 1980.

Nuclear Test Band Treaty - Treaty to stop testing Nuclear Weapons.

Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty - Treaty used to try to prevent the wide spread if Nuclear weapons but it could still be used for energy.

Strategic Arms Limitation Talk - Restrain the Nuclear arms race.

Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty - Treaty to ban Nuclear testing.  1996

Anti Ballistic Missile Treaty 1972 - Control their arms race in nuclear weapons. Banning any ABM systems.

Missile Defense System - Defense to block from incoming missiles
