Today I took the test that was given out yesterday.Then we took notes on the cold war and then we started our projects.
Cold War Notes:
Cold War: US vs the soviet union
-definition=a politcal, strategic and ideological struggle between US adn the soviet union.
-spread throughout the world-europe, asia, africa, and latin america.
Communism: Rule by gov. gov is very strong, dont have freedom, strong military.
Democracy: The gov is by and for the people, protects peoples freedom.
Socialism: The poor peopel are gonna rise up and over throw the rich and will make everything equal. then later with time a dictatorship could come to power.
Capitalism: Richer people get richer, middle stay the same, Karl marx thought this wasnt fair.
Causes of cold war:
-different political systems=US is democracy, capitalism and freedom
-USSR=dictatorship, communism, and control.
-both thought that their system was better and distrusted the others intentions
stalin despised capitalism.
-stalin broke his promise to allow free elections at the yalta conference
-we both feared attack on each other
-ussr fear of atomic bomb
-ussr wanted to spread communism
-mutual feeling of distrust b/c of suspicion
US Goals:
-stop the spread of communism
-provided democracy
USSR Goals:
-spread communism
-surround themselves with countries who were communists
-defensible borders
-wanted greater security for itself=feared a strong Germany
