**George Washington's -era of imperialism- strong countries taking over less powerful countries.
Farewell address-
Era of imperialism- strong countries taking over less powerful countries. countries wanted to take over a lot of Africa, because it was there for the taking, and the resources were very, very rich.
Policy of Isolationism- we basically kept to ourselves and didn't do a lot of foreign affairs
Manifest Destiny- gave the right to move as far west as we wanted
Monroe Doctrine-1823- kept the European powers out of the western hemisphere, and we protected Latin America, because we wanted to colonize it.
Mexican- American War-
Civil War- mainly happened because the south wanted to preserve their way of life (big plantations, slavery) while the north wanted to industrialize and advance technology, states that were new, had to pick from free or slave states. this was important because of congress, if free states outweighed slave states, congress would go with free. and the other way around.
