- the bay of pigs was an invasion to over throw Fidel Castro
- instead of using american soldiers we trained these Anti-Castro-Cubans
- the result was bad and Kennedy who promised air support pulled the plug right before the invasion and the Cubans were sitting ducks.
- it hurt Kennedy because it lead to the Cuban missile crisis.

- MacArthur was removed from command by President Truman on April 11, 1951.

- July 27th, 1953 a cease-fire was established to end the Korean War.

Escalation - Truman began Us involvement by spending money to help the french. Eisenhower continued US support by sending military advisers to give temporary support to Diem's government in the South. Kennedy continued sending advisers as well as special operation forces (green berets) . Johnson sent more and more combat forces into Vietnam.
Viet Cong - Viet Communist in the south who we fought during the war.

Agent Orange - was an herbicide that killed plants to kill plants because VC hid in jungle
Napalm - a fiery substance that just burns.
My Lai Massacre - US soldiers kill 504 Vietnamese Civilians. Women were rapped and bodies mutilated. Elderly,adults and even kids were killed.
Vietnam War protesters - Protesting the War and how the government lied to the people and the people found out from the pentagon paper. Nixon promised to end the war but then invaded Laos and Cambodia.
Kent ST/ University Protest/Massacre - 1970, N Guard was called to the protest that the student and the N Guard got pushed to the football field and a soldier misheard someone that said fire and fired upon the protesters.

War Powers Act
- Limits the power of the president of the US to wage War without the approval of the congress.
- it requires the president to consult with congress prior to and during any hostilities as well until US armed forces are no longer needed.
- President must remove US armed forces from hostilities if congress has not declared war or pass a resolution authorizing the use of military forces.
