Why was this war so unliked

- lyndon B. Johnson becomes president when kennedy died then got elected in 1964
- lyndon sent more troops when he said he was against the war
- the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which was very controversial
- which gave Lyndon the power to send troops
Tet offensive
- President Johnson and General William kept wanting more troops
- Most americans tended to believe this at first
- the american publics faith was shattered on January 30 1968 when the enemy supposedly on the verge of collapse mounted the Tet offensice in which nearl every major city in shouth vietnam was attacked
- named after the Lunar new year festibal which is trhe most important vietnamese holiday in south vietnam
- although we crushed the enemy militarily the surprising huge offensive attack from an enemy that was supposedly almost defeated convinced many americans that victory was imposible
after the Tet offensive
- people now knew that the government was lying to us and this made the US citizens even more mad
- one major we did not win the war was because we did not have the power to invade the north in fear that china would get involved
