Today Mr. Bruns talked about Germany, China, and Great Britain, in which we have already presented over. Once again he told us about the Big Blog Topic which is Pearl Harbor.

Presentations: FRANCE

Courtney and Kayley started their Presentation over France today.

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them? France hoped to get security from their suffering in WW I. France gained colonies, money, and they also thought Germany should have been punished more severely.
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years (1919-1938)?
France’s interwar government believed in Laissez-Faire economics and this upset the socialists. They did not want to help the lower class of people only wanted them to be able to get what each person earned. The Bloc Nation slogan was “Germany will pay.” When the socialists broke up, the Bloc Nation came back. In the 1930’s fascism and communism became popular. Leon Blum, a Jew, became Prime minster on June 3rd, 1936. The Gov’t was very concerned with fascism and communism. France was focused on their defense for war during the interwar years.
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power? George Clemenceau, Charles De Gaulle was the leader of the Free French Underground. De Gaulle was the only commander who had success in invading Germany. The Goal of the Free French Underground was to make France free again. The Vishay Government was not a success, and they were a pro German government. Eduardo Daladier and Paul Reynaud were arrested by the Vishay Government.

4. How did this leader change their country (for the better and worse) prior to WWII? They focused on defensive strategies. The Maginot line and France never focused on the attack.
5. What were the goals of the leader? De Gaulle wanted to Free France from German control. They wanted to free France from German control. The Vishay government wanted to help out the Germans.
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years (1919-1938)? The Maginot Line with Concrete fortification, Tank obstacles, Artillery encasements, and Machine Gun Posts.
7. What role did they play in WWII? Provided battlefields and developed and army on the boarder of Germany and waited for them to attack. The Free French Underground goal was to get France back and they attacked the Germans. The Vishay Government was helped Germany and Japan. Germany used France as a military base in Germany.
8. Who were their allies in WWII? France was an Allied Power.
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?
Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Australia. The Major allies were The United States, Great Britain, China, and the Soviet Union.

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years (1919-1938)? They wanted to help Hitler and to not overrun Germany during the time after and before World War II. They wanted to keep the twin cities supplies, which were standing links to local and helpful towns, to keep the military supplied. The Italian Campaign was in and around Italy and it was from 1943 to the end of the war in Europe. Many U.S. troops fought in Italy.
7. What role did they play in WWII? In the beginning, the tried to stay in isolationism, but still tried to help Germany. Mussolini wanted to make the Mediterranean Sea into an Italian Lake. This meant that he wanted to control the island and the land the surrounded the Sea. Mussolini wanted to control more of Africa. Most of the Italian troops did not care if they went to
8. Who were their allies in WWII? Germany, Austria- Hungary, Japan, parts of Yugoslavia, and the French Navy. The reason for the French navy was because the Vishay Government had control of the French Navy in France.
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?
They lost their colonies to Germany. Government collapsed once the Germany military came into Italy. The people of Italy thought that Mussolini thought that he ran Italy into the ground. The Italian Campaign was a tough battle in Italy.
