From the treaty of versailles france was hoping to gain a sense of security because of their suffering from WWII. They also wanted to regain the land of Alsace-Lorraine that Germany took from them in 1871. They got a lot of land from german and german colonies. First they dependded on Laissez-Faire economics but his upset socialists. The bloc nation wasnt interested in helping the lower classes. The Bloc Nation's slogan was "Germany will pay!" A socialist coalition called the Cartel des Gauchos replace the Bloc Nation in May of 1924. The socialists wer unorganized and in 1926 the Bloc nation came back. In the 1930's the ideas of fascism and communism were popular. A jew, Leon Blum, became the prime minister on June 3rd, 1936 but the popular fron government fell apart. France mainly focused on their defense for war. The maginot line was a wall meant to defend the French on the boarders of Italy and Germany.
