Today was a Blog Discussion Day. Nick Petsche, Austin Euchner, and I watched Saving Private Ryan because none of us have seen it before. I really enjoy it because it was exciting and always kept me on my toes. I liked the part when it showed Private Ryan in the fetal position. Nick liked the battle and how the Corporal did not get killed and then held up many German officers in the end and how he only killed the man who let him go.
We also found out that our Big Blog Topic for this week is over Pearl Harbor.
April watched Valkyrie. It was about a group trying to assassination of Hitler. Their plan was to go to a meeting where Hitler and other higher officials were located and they left a briefcase and they were trying to kill Hitler with a bomb briefcase and they thought they killed Hitler but he lived. Hitler executed any family members and the conspirators that tried to kill him. There was 15-20 attempted assassination of Hitler known.
Erin and Jenna watched the first episode of the Band of Brothers series. They interviewed the remaining soldiers in the Easy Company. The interview was about how they got paid more for being an airborne soldier. They got paid more. It was about how they went to a training camp and they eventually get introduced to Captain Sobal. The Easy Company was the best in the whole camp. They were trained harder than the other people in the camp. The Captain got in trouble and got demoted for pushing them to hard. He was scared to jump out of the plane also. It was summarized as they were sent to England to train and prepare for D-Day.
Zach and Ben watched the Pianist. It was about a pianist for polish minister and he becomes a slave. All the Jews were getting sent by cattle carts and he pulled the pianist out of the cattle cars and told him to hide. He was hiding in apartments and the living conditions were terrible. When he is in hiding, he goes back to the capitol and being a pianist saved his life. One of the German officers and since he played something for the German officer so the officer let him live. The German officer and he gave him food and saved his life. Zach did not want to watch this movie again. Neither would Ben. Girls would enjoy it more than guys.
Nathan watched a history channel how over Modern Marvels: The Manhattan Project. Germany would have been the first to be able to split the matter. Hitler did not like this idea; he wanted more information on tanks and weaponry for his Blitzkrieg idea. To make the bomb: they need 235 matters, so they separated 238 into 235. They looked at plutonium. Little Boy was dropped on Nagasaki and Fat Man was dropped on Hiroshima. These were the first Atomic Bombs and they caused the Nuclear Arms Race.
Zach K watched a movie called Enemy at the Gates. It is about two snipers in the battle of Stalingrad, and there is a German and a Russian Snipers. The two snipers use the same little boy for the same information about each other. The Russian Sniper killed the German sniper with a shot to the eye and this battle was the worst death total in WW II.
Riley watched The Great Raid. It was about the war in the Pacific and it started out with a Japanese American POW camp. The Japanese were staving them and did not have any medicine but they really did have food and medicine. The Japanese left the camp and the Americans broke into one of the buildings, they took all the medicine and the Japanese came back and told them to not try and escape because 10 Americans would be shot in his place. The Americans raided the camp at night and snuck up on them and killed them all. Only one American died; over 500 hundred lived.
