This weeks Blog was again over Black History Month and I decided I was going to do mine over Oprah Winfrey. I quoted all of the exact words that I took from in “ “in the blog, so to not get in trouble because I quoted itJ.
Oprah Winfrey was born January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was born to a poor black family, which meant that she has no shoes, flush toilets, and most likely that she would get nowhere in her life. Her name was supposed to be Orpah instead of Oprah. She was going to be named after Biblical Ruth’s sister in law, but her name was spelled wrong on her Birth Certificate so she had to go by Oprah. Oprah learned how to read at her home in Kosciusko, Mississippi and her mom had her skip kindergarten and she also skipped second grade. She is a really bright, smart kid, and she also was very beautiful. At the age of 17, Oprah worked for a local radio station reporter. Oprah became a News anchor at the age of 19, at Nashville’s WTVF-TV.
At the age of 18, Oprah won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty Pageant. In the film The Color Purple, and she was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress. Oprah has been in other films, but has not preformed nearly as well as The Color Purple performance. Oprah’s talk show, Oprah, went national in 1986 and is out of Chicago, Illinois. Oprah has the best rated daytime talk show ever and is about intimate, emotional, and seemingly sincere and has helped many people throughout the United States. Oprah has been talked about as a televised therapy and many people, also known as die hard fans, say she does more than entertain and interview over a camera, “she helps people deal with life.” Oprah has won many Emmy awards for her work on her television show, also she has many people that will vogue for her about those “powers” that Oprah has.
“Oprah has talked about being sexually abused as a child and how she thinks that she will never have children of her own.” “Oprah testified before Congress in support of “The Oprah Bill”, establishing a national database of convicted child abusers.” On one of Oprah’s most famous shows was when she brought a former cattle rancher turned into a vegetarian activist on the show and he began to talk about how many cattle ranchers feed dead butchered ground up cows and feeding them to other cows. Cows are supposed to be Herbivores and feeding them other cows is turning them into Carnivores. Oprah then said that she would never eat another hamburger in her life because of this new information that she learned about that day on the show. Soon after the show aired on television, beef prices dropped to an all-time low in years. This show got Oprah sued for “obviously un-constitutional laws forbidding criticism of food products without scientific evidence.”
