Madam C.J Walker

Madam C.J Walker moved to Saint Louis to live with her four brothers. Who were barbers, she worked for very little money $1.50 a day. In the 1890s Madam C.J Walker began to suffer from a rash on her head that caused her to lose almost all of her hair. She started to experiment with a lot of homemade remedies and also store bought products. Then she changed her name from Sarah Breedlove to Madam C.J Walker. She found her very own business and then began selling hair products named Madam Walker's Wonderful Hair Grower. Some of her great products were the scalp conditioning and healing formula. Many people thought she created the straightning comb which is false because she did not. She became an huge inspiration to lots of African American females. Knowing her power of her wealth and success she taught to promote her business which lead to making women more powerful in business. She taught people about African American issues at conventions which were sponsored by powerful black institutions. She also encouraged African Americans to help out the World War I cause and worked to have black vets granted full respect. Her offensive marketing strategy mixed with dead set on ambition, made her known as the first African-American woman to become wealthy entrepenuer. Making lots of money in fifteen years, this new kind of businesswoman only lived to be 52 years old.
She was successful beacuse of her perseverance, hard work, faith in
herself and in God, "honest business dealings" and of course, good
products.
