Monday-
Great Britain had barely any people killed in the war compared to anybody else. The children and elderly were taken to the country side because most of the bombing was happening in the big cities.
They were part of the allies.
Battle of great Britain- Air space battle. Germany bombed Britain day and night. Germany never were able to invade Britain.
Churchill would lead his man into battle with a sword and Swedish bow.
Munich Conference- It was to give Hitler what he wanted in order for war to not break out.
They declared war when Germany invaded Poland.
Fall of Singapore- Was a British military base. Japan won this battle and it was the largest surrender of British personal in history.
They wanted to make sure war never happened again. They signed 4 5 9 power pacts. They also singed Kellogg pact to not do war. After they announce war the sitting war occurs and nothing happens.
Bernard Montgomery was the biggest British general.
Tuesday-
America-
4 major leaders FDR, Eisenhower, Patton, MacArthur.
FDR- President tried to get congress to declare was but they would not come out of isolation.
MacArthur- New we would take back the Philippines. He returned and caused Japan to surrender. Came up with the island hopping strategy.
Eisenhower- Was the planner of D-day he later went against MacArthur and won.
Leyte war- was a naval battle destroyed much of Japanese fleet. Ended Japanese moving of goods.
They island hopped which was going form island to island moving the Japanese back and get close enough to bomb them.
Cost 1.6 trillion dollars.
Allied- Great Britain U.S. Soviet Union, China, France.
Neutrality Act- Countries come here we give them what they need and they pay us for what they got. Allowed arms trade. U.S. citizenship were not allowed to enter war zones.
Lend Lease-Then we would give them planes or ships and after the war they were suppose to give them back after the war. We gave it to Russia, China, Great Britain.
Panay Incident- A gun boat in china they sunk and they payed us back money for sinking the ship also saying sorry.
Bases for Destroyers- We are giving great Britain military battle ships for bases for the U.S. to use.
German U Boats- They used them to take out our ships.
Wednesday-
Selective Training and Service Act- It was pretty much the draft now you have to sign up for if war ever broke out. You are given a number and if it was packed out you were sent.
Atlantic Charter- It was setting war goals for the allies even though we were not even in the war.
Why did Japan attack us they waned to knock us out of the war. They realized they need to strike at us before we get into the war. Instead it just brought us into it which pretty much made them lose the war.
Bataan Death March- POW's were walking one camp to the next. thousands of soldiers died and japan did not handle it well with trying to keep the soldiers alive.
Invasion of Japan- Over 1 million casualties people thought we were going to invade but we never did.
Manhattan Project- Instead we did this and used them on Japan. Enola Gay what the plane used to drop the atomic bomb. He named his airplane after his mother.
Uranium was for Hiroshima- Radiation sickness and burns. Also the death from the bombs blowing up.
The plutonium bomb was for Nagasaki. They used a B29 named the box car.
When Japan surrendered they had to do things until we left.
Battle for the Atlantic- It was the battle for the control of the Atlantic ocean. It was German U boats and our navy to prevent goods being passed back and forth.
We used the convoy System- Which meant we went in many ships and we would get German good ships and take them over.
Rosie the Riveter- Was the woman who gave women hope when the men were gone. It was saying that they could do it and trying to cheer them up.
Woman's army core- They did not fight but would do as much as they could to help.
Thursday-
We had Navajo people that sent out our messages and if they were getting captured by the Germans we would shoot them. Because we could not allow them to know what we were doing. We broke there code they could not break ours. Native Americans also fought in WW2. The Tuskegee airmen were native Americans who bombed and helped us out a lot. Asian Americans also helped.
Hollywood- they helped people escape from the war and info so people could get away with entertainment. Also a lot of propaganda. They entertained the troops as well. They would send famous people who would go out and entertain them.
The office of price administration- They would put a limit on stuff that people could have. There was the black market that was illegally buying things.
They sold horse meet. It seems now like eating a pet.
War Production Board- Us making stuff for the war. It was telling you to work as hard as you can to help for the war.
War Finance Committee- War bonds on how we payed for the war.
