Today we went over our Blog Topics and I am doing mine over Oprah Winfrey. This Blog Topic is the same as last week which is Black History Month and next week we do not have to do a Blog Post and our test, which is an Oral test, and we also have a four day weekend. I will have a six day weekend because I am going to BPA state meeting from February 21-23 and it is going to be a blast!! I really enjoyed the last BPA meeting and I hope that this one is the same as last time.

Today we started watching a movie over the New Deal and here are some notes that I took over this short 35-40 minute video.

A New Deal Video Notes:

The 1929 brought prosperity to a sudden halt and the U.S. had started a Great Depression. People lived in terrible conditions and had a very, very, very hard time getting by in that time. Banks closed and people did not get their money out in time. As inventories pilled up cooperation’s and people started investing in the stock market. Many people bought stock on margin, and people bought enormous amounts of stock for very little money. When stock market declined, brokers wanted their loans, and people did not have the money to pay, so brokers became broke and mad. As incomes plunged, many people could not be able to afford their houses, and working places set up a permanent sign that said “No Help Wanted.” Hoover never had a chance in 1932. Roosevelt won all but 6 states in the election of 1932. The first 100 days of Roosevelt’s Presidency were the best of any president ever. Roosevelt wanted a movement of government, that would not need a president but still had a president in the U.S. People traveled from farm to farm and families worked for less than 10 dollars per week. Millions of Americans could not wait for the industrials and farmers to get help they needed food now or they would starve. The Civilian Conservation Corps sent Millions of young men to work and the Government was a lot more helpful in this way and this helped people not just get free money during these times in the U.S. During the Fireside Chats, many people felt as though Roosevelt was talking to them directly and they felt important. Eleanor Roosevelt served as a bridge from women and African Americans. African Americans had a lot harder time during the Great Depression than Whites. Franklin Roosevelt never felt the same about African Americans as his wife, Eleanor did.
