Today we continued our presentations starting with riley talking about the Tennessee valley authority. It was created in 1933. It was CREATED TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY. It is the largest public power of company in the U.S. It was created for the public. Today most major hydropower companies are owned by the government. Then he talked about Huey Long. Was the governor of Louisiana. He originally liked the new deal, but he later turned against it. Longs main focus was to spread wealth more evenly throughout the country. His motto was Every man a king. Long helped with a lot of social programs. During his most prominent days in his life he was shot. Francis townsend was a doctor. His main focus was to get a pension. The pension camee from a national sales tax. He tried to get this so retired people could live more comfortably. The townsend plan kept going until the 1980’s when it ran out of effectiveness.

Then kloewer went and talked about hwo movies got very popular during the great depression because it was cheap entertainment and they could escape problems of their daily life. He talked about the radio too and some other things that I couldn’t always understand cause I don’t think he completely understood it.
