Today we continued the presentations. Nate ohms weent and talked about the Agricultural adjustment acto of 1933. In 1936 it was declared unconstitutional because they were only taxing certain people. The court case was United States v. Butler.
Then he talked about the AAA of 1938. It was designed to fulfill Henry Wallace's call for an ever normal granary. Made price support mandatory for coen, cotton and wheat. Offered insurance to wheat farmers if damage was cauased. this act iss considdered part of permanent law. Then he talked about the Judiciary reorganization bill of 1937 Proposed by franklin D. Roosevelt. would gieve him the power to assign an extra supreeme court Justice. He could appoint the extra justice if the current justice was over seventy years old. he wanted this because the current justicees turned down many new deal ideas. Also known as the court pa cking bill. Bill was made to reduce workload for older justices. When roosevelt promoted the bill a huge fight broke out. many people thought this would give him contyrol of the supremee court. The bill was not passed but it actuallu succeeded. owen josphus roberts switched his vote in favor of the new deal bills. His vote switched the supreme court in favor of new deal plan 5.
