2009 Iranian Election

The 2009 Iranian election was held on June 12, 2009. The two major heard about canidates were Mir-Hossein Mousavi and the least favored canidate by the people, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The elections were very interesting, and major news channels tried to cover it as good as they could. As the election began, Mousavi was favored to win, and the public voted for him, as the people say majority voted for Mousavi. But, in the actual ballots, which Iranians think the government rigged, said that 66% went to Ahmadinejad. This was a major issue to the public. Many people had riots, so big that there was lockdown on Tehran, Irans major city. They protested for almost a month. Major news stations like CNN, and BBC were not allowed into the country for reasons that the goverment wouldn't allow. This infuriated the Iranian people, and most of them made Facebook the mouth of the protests and how the people felt. Iranians think that Ahmadinejad is a fake, no good person that has rigged the election to once again be a leader of Iran. Still today, it is talked about it, and Iran is looked down upon as a corrupt society. My opinion: I think this was a rigged election, otherwise there wouldn't be the protests that lasted for months. I also think Ahmadinejad is a no good person and is not favored by the world. It's pretty bad when your whole country knows your fake, and they hate you. It is not fair to the people at all. Another thing is that i think they wouldn't allow CNN and BBC to broadcast this is because they didn't want the world to know, which is wrong. What is a democracy if you can't speak out???
