2/23-27

2/23- After WWI Mussolini went back to being a journalist. When he was arrested it caused civil war in Italy. Italy lost 454,600 people, spent 94 billion dollars, and they had poor leadership. Italy had to surrender to the Allied powers because their homeland was invaded, and the Allies went on to win the war. 

2/24- Italy, continued

2/25- Presentations, Italy quiz.

2/26- Germany presentation. Germany amassed 117 army divisions for their attack called operation overlord. Russian weather had a great effect on the Battle of Moscow. Hermann Goring committed suicide just two hours before he was scheduled for execution. The Battle of Stalingrad had a bunch of casualties, one of the highest in history. Battle of Britain was all about the air combat. Treaty of Versailles- Germany wasn't allowed tanks or an air force, army was reduced to 100,000 men. Hitler decided Germany would drop out of the League of Nations. Hitlers father beat him, he struggled in school but was very good in art. He made money as a teen selling arts in the street. Nazis did not invent the Swastika, it was made as a sign of peace in some religions.        

2/27- Germany continued. Soviet-German Non-Aggression pact. For a long while there was a belief that Germany couldn't be defeated. Big steel poles in the ground were meant to stop tanks from advancing.
