Americans owned about 40 percent of the worlds wealth and this changed how americans lived. The average annual income rose 35 percent from $522 to $705. Alot of people found it really easy to spend the extra money.Gasoline powered much of the economic boom, but the use of electricity transformed the nation. American factories began to use electricity to run their machines. The development of an alternating current made it possible to distrbute electrical power over longer distances.Electricity was now not only in just the cities but also in the suburbs. The number of electrical households grew, but many farms still ran on no electricity. By the end of the 1920s many houses had electricity, Well to do families had electrical appliances such as refridgerators, cooking ranges, and toasters.
