This blog is about the Darfur, Sudan Genocide. Darfur is a region inside of the country Sudan. Darfur is about the size of Texas. The people contain the tribes of Africans and Arabs. The religion of most of them is Muslin.
The conflicted started in February 2003 when the Sudan Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality Movement were accusing people of harrasing the Africans instead of the Arabs. These liberation groups decided to recruit non-Arabic muslim soldiers instead of Arabic. The government wasn't really doing anything. The Sudanese government was accused of trying to Ethnically cleanse in Darfur. People were swept from their home because of this. The government was accused of having massive grave sites for the Africans. The arabs have been known to attack news cameras so there is very little coverage of what is actually happening there. The death toll is another big issue with this war. The government claims that only 20,000 people have died. Others claim that about 400,000 civilians have died. The world health organization said that about 50,000 have died since the beginning of the war, mainly of starvation.
You can obviously see starvation taking place in this picture. It's just so sad.The US government believes we should have more troops there, but the UN doesn't agree with us. The UN has decided to have troops at refugee camps, but if the almost 7,000 African troops can not maintain by theirselves the U.S. will need to do something. The U.S. has said to state that this is Genocide, the UN disagrees with them. They said it "does not have intent of Genocide." Finally the UN agreed on a proposal which had 24,000 troops going into Sudan.Personally, I still do not get whats up with these genocides. People have taken jealousy way too far. These are very hostile situations and I really don't understand why the UN can't just put troops in there and end this bad boy. Like honestly. Per say...if one white person kills two blacks the media goes crazy, everyone knows about it an hour after it happens and the President has a speech on CNN about it that night. But because this is in Sudan, nobody really knows about it, so no one really cares. It's just sad... the UN really needs to quit being blindsided and get into gear.Maybe even Mr. Obama can help here...
