wish we would have had a snow day. theres a possibility of getting out early today, and of a snow day tomorrow.Today we continued with the Rwanda blog discussions...started with why the UN and the US didnt try to do anything to stop the genocide (several possible reasons, including racism, although no particular reason was decided upon). So once we were done talking about that, we looked at a powerpoint that summarized and gave more info about what happened in during that 100 day period in 1994, and the aftermath. The whole thing was relly very gory, what with the violent machete(?) hacking, and the shooting, the beatings.....Back to the reasons we didnt do anything, the UN didnt declare it a genocide, so none of the countries in the UN were allowed to take up arms and defend the Tutsis or stop the Hutus. etc, etc, review of what we've been talking about today, monday, and in our assigned blogs. Then we watched some of the movie Hotel Rwanda. During this time we shut down our cows and actually watched the movie...So, the movie is about a moderate Hutu hotel owner. In the part of the movie we watched today (only like, the first 10-15 minutes) he did business with one of his suppliers, who was a Hutu extremist against Tutsi. Then he and a co-worker were driving back to the hotel when a Hutu parade, also against Tutsis, blocked the road and they had to wait before they could move on....back at the hotel, the owner chatted with a couple army generals. Then he went home(?) and this is where we stopped watching. But, the last thing we saw today was two little girls happily jumping rope and hula-hooping.....which gives a premonition about how the movie might turn out.
