Today in CWI we did our blog discussion again. We talked about what UN and the US did during the genocide in Rwanda. The UN pulled out their peace keepers out after ten people had died. They couldn't send people in because the UN didn't declare it as a genocide. The United States didn't do anything and Mr. Bruns told us that it might have been because poor African Americans were the ones getting killed and not wealthy white people. He said that if it would have been wealthy white people then we would have most likely gotten involved.Mr. Bruns went over a powerpoint just to go back through everything we've talked about. The Hutus made up 85% of the population in Rwanda. It all started with a plane crash that killed the president of Rwanda. Hutu extremists probably actually shot down the presidents plane because they didn't want peace, but they blamed it on the Tutsis. In the end the Rwandan Patriotic army chased out the Hutus and they fled to neighboring countries. The weapon of choice for the Hutus was a machete because they were easy to get and cheap and a lot of people had them. After going over the powerpoint, we watched the movie about what happened in Rwanda.
